Artist Statement

I approach a lot of my work as play and sketching, and am often surprised by the final outcome. I often reflect on my experiences moving around the world during grade school, and consider what home and belonging mean to me. Struggling with and considering our own sense of place is part of the human experience, and although everyone has a unique background with them, I find there is an innate connection with most people through conversations about roots and their complexities. Although I can’t help but consider those themes in most things I do, my work is often simply intended to be fun to look at, make, or both. I make cartoons and illustrations of places and scenes that interest me, and I am drawn to playful colors and patterns. I hope my work adds excitement to viewers’ days, spaces, or imaginations.
